The Beatles's background


The Beatles were the biggest band ever, aka The Fab Four, the World will never see their like again, because that particular moment - the 60s - will never come again. John Lennon was heavily criticised for off-handedly commenting that they were 'bigger than Jesus', but really he was just stating a truth that everyone, everywhere had heard about the Beatles, and most were more excited by the Beatles as well - which was certainly true for younger people in 60s Britain.


John Lennon was the rhythm guitarist and one of the two principal songwriters, along with Paul McCartney, who played bass. George Harrison was the lead guitarist, and increasingly a songwriter in his own right in the band's later years, while Ringo Starr was the drummer, whose steady, understated playing and easy-going nature helped hold the group together through the tensions of their later career. Behind the four of them, George Martin, their producer, is often called 'the fifth Beatle' for the arrangements and studio ideas he brought to their recordings, while Brian Epstein, who discovered and managed them from their Liverpool club days, was instrumental in shaping their early image and getting them signed; his death in 1967 marked the beginning of the band's slow unravelling.


What makes The Beatles such a great example?


The Beatles are a good example of a chart-comparison problem with six people rather than two: four band members plus the producer and manager who shaped them from outside the group. It is a useful test of whether astrology can show not just one relationship but a whole overlapping web of them, and how a shared creative unit can be held together by connections that run in more than one direction at once.


The synastry between the four Beatles themselves is famously dense, but some of the more revealing connections run between the members and the two men who were never on stage with them.


NB. It is worth noting that George Martin shares George Harrison's Venus opposite Neptune aspect, with the difference that for George Martin the aspect is elementally properly opposite, and for George Harrison the aspect is properly close. So, each of them in their own way manifest the aspect in a way that works better for the other, meaning that as they get to know each other, and incorporate the other into their own being, they are learning how to be more themselves.
