Sergeant (wikitree) Anthony Clarke Booth left in command, formed a defensive square of the 40 or so men surviving, and led an orderly retreat for 3 miles, pursued by Zulus. On reaching a defensible farm the Zulus abandoned their chase and withdrew. Anthony Clarke Booth was awarded the VC for his actions.
