What makes Ernest Hemingway such a great example?

Nobel winning writer Ernest Hemingway famously wrote The Old Man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls, in a spare, understated style that changed the course of twentieth-century fiction. But he was also, by his own account, a man who hated his mother, Grace Hall Hemingway, whom he blamed for his father's suicide in 1928 and refused to see or speak to for long stretches of his adult life, even skipping her funeral. So why was this?

What makes Ernest Hemingway such a great example?

Hemingway's relationship with Grace is a good example of a chart having to carry real, lifelong hostility rather than affection: as a child he was dressed by her, along with his older sister, in matching outfits and even had his hair cut the same way as hers, in a way biographers have suggested left a permanent mark on him, and as an adult he described her as 'an all time all American bitch' in his own letters.
