What makes Bill Joe Benefiel such a great example?

Bill Joe Benefiel was a Terre Haute, Indiana rapist and murderer. In October 1986 he abducted 17 year old Alicia Elmore at gunpoint, and held her captive, chained and repeatedly raped, for four months. In January 1987 he also abducted Delores Wells, a teenager he knew, and held both women in the same house. On 7 February 1987 he murdered Delores Wells, after beating and torturing her, burying her body in a shallow grave; Alicia Elmore was rescued by police four days later, on 11 February, when a tip-off from Benefiel's wife, Marilyn Dishon, led them to the house. Two other women, known at trial only as 'Diana' and 'Mary', testified that Benefiel had raped them years earlier, in 1978 and 1980 respectively.

Bill Joe Benefiel 's insanity plea was rejected by the court. He was convicted of murder, rape, criminal confinement and criminal deviate conduct, sentenced to death, and executed by lethal injection at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City on 21 April 2005, aged 48.
